The 20th century was to mark the decline of the local textile
industry, leading to many bankruptcies.
The establishment of
the Paluel Nuclear Power Plant in 1977 offered the canton a new
lease of life, along with new inhabitants (the population grew
from 2,205 inhabitants in 1975 to 3,202 in 1982 and 3,183 in
2011).
The arrival of this new Cany population also led to the creation
of new school classes, a splendid multisport complex
(Le Sporticaux, located in Route de Veulettes), an HQE (High
Quality Environmental standard) swimming pool, a highly active
associative network (with over 50 associations) and, of course,
unrivalled vitality among its town-centre traders.
Cany is also home to a number of specialised firms from the
agrifood sector, along with a company, established here since
1980, which has become one of the world leaders in the field of
polymers.
